James Collinson was one of the original founder members of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. He was a fellow student of Holman Hunt and Rossetti at the Royal Academy Schools. It was the intricate detail of his painting The Charity Boys Debut that so seduced Rossetti into including him as a founder member of the group. Rossetti also introduced him to his sister Christina with whom he became engaged in 1849. He abondoned the PRB after 1851 due to religious commitment and worked sporadically as an artist, producing genre subjects which show his Pre-Raphaelite techniques. Works by him are extremely rare and only very occasionally appear on the market.
